Moves That Matter
Start A Chess Club
Chess it up Iowa offers support for community members interested in starting and/or improving local chess club. Teaching children how to play chess is an incredibly rewarding experience, but it can also be intimidating. Especially if you are also new to the world of chess.
If you are new to coaching Chess It Up Iowa can provide guidance. One on one meetings can be arranged with experienced coaches to discuss coaching and how to organize your club. If desired a coach can attend club meetings to help you get started.
U.S. Chess Memberships for Scholastic Players
One of the best ways to motivate and connect scholastic players is through competitive rated chess tournaments. Having a rating allows players to measure their skills, set goals, and is motivation to practice more so they can be the top player among their friends or fellow club members. Junior memberships are provided for free to any K-12 player who needs one at all rated Chess It Up Iowa tournaments. Additionally memberships can be purchased at a reduced rate to scholastic chess clubs or players who need them for non Chess It Up Iowa events.
Girl's Chess Club
Women and girls are greatly under represented in the chess world. This is true both on the National level and in the central Iowa chess community. Chess it up Iowa would like to provide a space where girls can feel comfortable and seek support in learning the game of chess and becoming a major part of the competitive chess community.
